This Durga Puja plan to visit Maa mundeshwari, Explore Kaimur cultures and heritages

Historical Background of Kaimur

Kaimur district, established on 17th March 1991, was previously part of Rohtas district. The region has a rich history dating back to prehistoric times, with evidence of human habitation found in the form of rock paintings in the Lehda forest, which are around 20,000 years old.

During ancient times, Kaimur was part of the mighty Magadh Empire from the 6th century B.C. to the 5th century A.D., under the Mauryan and Gupta rulers. In the 7th century A.D., it came under the control of Harshawardhan, the ruler of Kannauj. The Mundeshwari Temple, located in Kaimur, has inscriptions that refer to King Udaysena as the ruling chief of the area during that period.

The district also played a significant role during the medieval period, being part of the territories controlled by various dynasties, including the Palas and the Shail dynasty. The region saw conflicts and changes in control, especially during the invasions by Muslim rulers and later during the British colonial period.

Today, Kaimur is known for its historical sites, natural beauty, and cultural heritage, making it a fascinating destination for travelers.
